On View at View in Old Forge

Mummy Bag Influenced is set and ready for Friday's preview at View in Old Forge, New York. Quilts Unlimited opens Saturday, and many other works will be part of the offering. I'll be doing the lecture Saturday morning before the luncheon. If you are nearby, stop in to see this exhibit.

Hicks and Low Relief

Sheila Hicks "Bas Relief Panel", 1988, was on view on my recent visit to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. In their contemporary craft section, I found this piece so quilterly, with patterning like any block. But it is embroidered, bleached linen. Guess I was fooled.

On Ice

I am on ice for a couple of days with a slight torn meniscus repair. All will go well and I look forward to hiking in a couple of months. Meanwhile, just a short stint on crutches, then should be up and walking fine, and will be in Old Forge, New York, to speak Saturday morning. Next week I will be off to Ohio.

Holy Pumpkin

Might be good that these mice are out of focus. Too clear a picture, and you wouldn't want to come trick or treating at my house.

At Ease With Itself

Carol Trice is standing with her piece in the Quilts=Art=Quilts show. This is not a formal shot; I like how it shows the scale of the work, with Carol. And it looks like her -- clean, simple lines, at ease with itself. The quilted line is tight, manic, and pastel. A surprise at close-up range.

Honorable Night

Pink Leaf 4 (Yellow) is up at the Schweinfurth, and the Quilts=Art=Quilts opened tonight. I recieved honorable mention for my piece, and it is in absolutely perfect company. Judy Kirpich took the top honors and well deserved.

At What Price

One could write a book about how to price artwork. These quilts were finished and hanging in the New England Quilt Museum with dangling price tags. Always remember that the artist takes home the asking price minus the commission. Then, if they are ethical, pays income tax on that. Makes me wonder.

Modern? Contemporary?

Keep this in mind when you need that descriptive label. Now replace it with modern. Maybe post-modern? This is by Maurizio Nannucci in neon (natch) and hangs at the Boston Museum of Fine Art.

New England and New Quilts

Stopped in yesterday to view the "Roots of Modern Quilting" at the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell, Massachusetts. I was expecting to see the quilts that started the movement of the current contemporary quilts, but I forgot that the "Modern" was in the title. Stay tuned.

The Glass Man Cometh

Here is a tower of green pointy things by Dale Chilhuly at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Nice to see this in natural daylight. Still, how do you keep this dust free?

They are the Tops

Before my lecture tonight for the Quilter's Connection, these quilters did some showing off of their own. And check out my lovely "living room" set. The best place to speak, for a million reasons.
