I'm staying next door to a sweet, small house with a big pedigree. Located in the Adirondacks, this cottage was designed my Stanford White, a renowned architect. His works are monumental, but seems that he did some small favors as well. I'm sure the client was renowned, too.

Working in the Round
I'm tasked with getting floral chandeliers for this wedding, and I've got help. It is also nice to be on a vacation of sorts, with beautiful surrounds and decent weather. We'll be encircled.

Packing
In a week, I've got a wedding to go to. A friend is picking up the cake I've made, as I won't be able to transport them. To help her navigate, I've made boxes to travel them, just like an art handler would do. So, always document with a photo, right?

On the Wall
After I've squared it and trimmed, it's always nice to see it again in the whole. I've spent a lot of time peering at the close-ups when quilting it, and now it's back to the full view.

Need a Trim?
Although I've got a 6' long metal ruler (the red one) it's not long enough to mark the entire width. So, I've married a long metal ruler to that edge and will switch from one to the other to cut the trim mark on this piece. And, happy to have a table in the new studio long enough to make the job easier.

Under the Needle
It took a few sessions, but this latest piece is now quilted. Next trim, then finish. I'm gearing up for a solo show set for late August. More on that later, of course. Just feels good to have this part done. Buy, oh, I've not got a name!

Home Just Keeps On
The blooms didn't wait for me to return, they plantings here are getting copious amounts of rain. We've yet to have the brown grass, so my first order of business was to cut the grass. I love how everything is green, and these pale pink althea have become a favorite.

Lest You Think
Should you think I lead that glorious life of travel to exotic places, I want you to take in my latest "sleepover" in the Detroit Airport. Delayed flight means my connection goes out the next day. So, here's a view, spooky for sure, of the way to the tunnel to access the B Concourse. I slept elsewhere, eeeek.

Kind of GoodBye Wave
You can see that the stuff on the tables is full of things to try for printing in this workshop. Sometimes it gets mixed up, and we print ourselves. Most of all, we just have a great time experimenting. My thanks and a wave ta-ta to all the fine folks who joined me for the week's workshop in Coupeville at PNWAS.

Pop Up Print Show
An advantage of in person workshops is seeing what is created just next to you. Taking a look at what fills the clothesline is always a splenid lift.
Can It Be More Fun
Yes, it's great to be among other makers, but when you get to be part of the party, part of the show, well, it really is fun. We had a great week, with great mates. I'll be back next year!

Printing in Series
This give you an idea of the progression Deb made with her printing Layers and layers, each adding to the composition. So fun to see those spoons change in the body of work she did.

Teaching at Coupeville, Washington
Another night with low bandwidth for a post. It was a grand day of printing and a field trip to visit Marcia Derse's studio.
Time Out
Here is a view of the adorable little house where I'm staying with a few other people in the class. It's a set of officer's houses built in the early 1900s. The view is great, and the home cozy and quiet.

Barracks With a View
Fort Casey Inn has just what I need -- salt air and a VIEW. It's a swell place to camp out while at the Pacific Northwest Art School and my workshop this week. We'll get started tomorrow, can't wait.

Room With a View
A brief walk through the Chicago airport made me realize 1) they spend a lot of time and money giving people windows in an airport and 2) rectangles made good patterns.

Yes, I Found That Hour
Finally got that machine riding over the last quilt I made, and it's so easy to grab and hour here and there. One reason I have the machine at the home studio and not away. I do love to do this drawing on the work.

Oh, It's Crying Time Again...
...I'm gonna leave you. I can see that far away look in your eyes. I can tell by the way you pack my suitcase, that it won't be long before it's flying time. (Apologies to Buck Owens.)

Jake Night
After a nine day stretch listening to music with the Rochester International Jazz Festival, I was ready to spend another night hearing world class music to break the withdrawal. So I bought a ticket to hear Jake Shimabukuro play his ukulele. Perfect cure.

Pallett Plate
Using buttercream frosting as the medium, and gel colors to tint, I can experiment with shades and mixes of frosting. Seems simple, but it feels just like what I do when I print. Which will be MONDAY!! Can't wait.

Loaded and Waiting
This has been set and waiting for a few weeks now. Somehow my other life got in the fast lane, this just on the side of the road. It won't be forever, but I really do want to see this finished. Maybe just an hour will get me started. There's always hope.

Northern most point of the City
A day trip to the shores of Lake Ontario and a sighting of a historical marker about early white settlers to the area. The site held a fur trading post by the French who traded with the Senecas. I forget the change this land has had, as we were just looking for a day's diversion.

Gonna Miss Oregon Rain
When I can, I'll switch out works. I enjoy the details, the connections, and the happenstance relationships I may have not noticed when I built the piece. Oregon Rain (detail here) will not e returning home for me to ponder. It's been chosen by a collector and will have a new home. I hope they study the details too.

Tick that Off the List
I've got the major cake in the freezer. And given our very warm days, I'll bet they are happy in that ice box. On to finish the other tasks. Oh, for those cake decorators, I've been getting my advice from "British Girl Bakes" on youtube. She's taught me all I know.

Reality of Life
I've been baking carrot cake to the point where I think I can do this without looking. Suffice to say that it is getting difficult to make studio time. Oh, yes, I take care of office stuff, but getting a block of time to create is getting more difficult. August will be better.

Making Marks
In my early teens I learned to sew. I remember reading the instructions to mark points like darts, joins, or locations using thread, and not just a pin or pencil mark. I think you would even pass a needle through the points to match. The skirt of the 'big dress' needed those marks, so, yes, I did that.

Happy Fireworks
I could only hear the fireworks, so I'll imagine that they looked like this. Those who know my workshops will be conditioned to say -- hey, ain't that a center medallion? -- and they'd be right. Happy Fourth.

Super Moon
You know my camera can't capture the full moon -- and a super moon at that. So, my stroll around the yard found this. Too bad it's not a blue moon. Ha!

Making Holes
Most of today was spent catching up on assembling a dress. The back is drawn together with ribbons, part of the pattern, and it asked for stitched holes to direct the ribbon. I've never sewn something so time consuming. Good thing there is Netflix.

Jazz Fest
The Rochester International Jazz Festival concludes tonight. I made it to nine consecutive nights of superb performances. All with fantastic company -- some I met for the first time. Amiable crowd, packed houses, great venues. Next year, I'll do it again. Don't look for me at the end of June 2024.
