Holsts Planets
Best seat in the Eastman Theater to hear Gustov Holst's "The Planets" tonight. Now that I heard the piece, I've a mind to whip up my own set of planets -- but will have to follow Gustov's lead and make the works astrological, not astronomical.
My husband and I saw the concert as well and I told him afterwards it was some of the most visual music I'd ever heard--I'd been designing quilts in my head the whole time as well!
I had to go back to youtube to revisit the piece. The ending was just ethereal. I searched for the sound of the human voice in the orchestra, wondering what instrument could be making the sound that was so similar to the a woman singing. I had known, but forgot, that there was a screened chorus adding the closing notes. The conductor pacing off the last of the piece was just memorable.
