Pink Flowers at the Pink House

Cris Winters runs "Art at the Pink House" Gallery in Saranac Lake, New York. I'm happy to be asked to juror a show of multi-media work that will be on view starting next week. Bonus -- being in the Adirondacks at the height of summer.

Nod to the Democrats

This quilt, in honor of Hoover, may now be seen as a marking for the Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. Love the repeated letterform. I saw this at the AQS Syracuse quilt show this weekend.

Don't Listen to Everyone

Mikyung Jang sent this quilt to the AQS Syracuse show. I saw a lovely quilts, with folded lines. The lines are there, I am supposing, because she folded it on the diagonal. Someone must have told her that diagonal folding would not make fold lines.

Comparisons

We are in the thick of party versus party. I like the opposition made in this photo of two flowers and two people,  Perspective, scale, size, and image are determined by our vantage point.

Shopping for Dresses

It is difficult to know fabric, love fabric, and then try to settle for what a designer has chosen to be acceptable fabric. Better, sometimes, to not have any background, so that seeing haphazard combinations does not bring up a knee jerk reaction.

I've Said this Before

As I finished dinner, I realized that I had been deconstructing the composition of the quilt opposite me. Checking the color, the shapes, the line -- you know, how it was designed. There is nothing better than living with your work to understand your voice.

Summer Gardens

I've been so preoccupied with making and selling fabric that I've spent little time in my garden. I want to run about and shout "Hold on, wait, don't bloom just yet." Time to slow down and see the daisies.

National Hammock Day

Ok, National Hammock Day was yesterday, so I'm a day late in celebrating. I've moved my hammock to the back deck, and yes, use it way more than when it was in the yard. Closeness counts!

What Goes Around

Maggie stopped in to show me a quilt she made which included my shibori dyed fabric from many years ago. And she bought more hand painted fabric this week, so I may have to return in six years to see what happens to those pieces. My thanks for sharing this. Cool!

Going, gone

I've added a dozen new prints to the offerings at my QBL quilt show table, and just two remain. Good and bad. Telling people I make wild prints isn't the same as letting them see the fabric. Like the good writer's mantra: show, don't tell.
