Selling It All

The second week's vendor night had none of my printed fabric, just my silk scarves. I took home just two, and gifted one on the way. So, QSDS is a great place to find artist made apparel. Heck, you'd come away with a new wardrobe. 

 

Packing Up

 It was time to pack it all up and celebrate the QSDS 2022 symposium. I had to admire Jill's clever filing system for keeping tract of her tyvek motifs. I learned more and more. Thank you my clever class! 

Drying Room

At our setup at QSDS there is a "drying room" which is an empty classroom where we outfit a few clotheslines. The impromptu exhibition of surface design techniques is amazing to watch. Color, motif, scale, pattern and technique is all on view. A great day, this Thursday.
 

Hump Day

It was a great printing day. With most of the techniques under the belt, we were ready to try out more creative ways to print. Tomorrow has great promise. That'll be out "work" day here at QSDS. 
 

On the Way to Work

I pass this on the way to teaching at QSDS. It is a wall mural on a building's outer skin. Made if thick ceramic blocks, it contains raised parts that become circles. Part of the campus at Columbus College of Art nd Design.

Take the Stage

Jeanette DiNicolis Meyer spoke tonight about her work and how covid era has effected her work. A brief but fascinating short talk at QSDS. I spoke ahead of her so my quilts drape the stage.
 

Enough Room

QSDS takes over the art building at the Columbus College of Art and Design for their symposium. And they give me a generous and wonderful to have students work at building abstract compositions. The finished pieces were just lovely to watch take form.
 

Make It & Break It

A two day class in improvisational design for quilting started today at QSDS in Columbus, Ohio. We started small, with half yard cuts of three selected fabrics. Each started with different fabrics, and at the end of the day, finished with a great start to an abstract piece.
 

Yes, We Made It

We all survived the five days at QSDS.  I had a talented group of printers, ones who put up with me and printed like crazy. Can't ask for better. 

Room Full of Blues

...and oranges, reds, yellows, blacks, and everything in between. With 17 printers churning out works with various techniques showing the diversity of motifs. It's fun, that's for sure. And just being in this spontaneous installation is pretty heady.
 

Table Size Matters

The worktables are sturdy and generous. Might be about 8' long. So working on a large piece is easy -- unless your arms don't reach. We've gotten started using silkscreens for printing, and the printing is mounting up. Nice to work in the Columbus College of Art and Design's classrooms for QSDS.
