Garden of Delights

I'd heard of Longwood Gardens from friends for years. So, my travels were going near, and I stopped in to walk the paths. A bit of history and a lot of color, and I can see botanical forms creep in to the studio.

Getting Naked in the Park

Passed a group of ladies in Fairmount Park in Philly today, and had to commend them on their form, and their good sense to dress lightly for this summer's heat. Not that I would follow suit.

Tile Works

A visit today to the Moravian Tile Works in Doylestown, Pennsylvania had me wondering about this mold that was used to make the multicolored tile. It transferred the lines to clay, and then the potter cut the shapes accurately. A chance to see divided and pieced work in a new way.

Duet

Garden tours are a favorite when the summer is here. This is a double Jack-in-the-Pulpit flower, seen late in the cycle, but I'm glad that I found it.

Ta-Da

The crepe de chine silk took the dye differently than I thought, but I like the look of it. It is abut 18" wide and about six feet long. I'll make more, and plan to bring them with me to QBL for the first week.

Get Ready

Figured that I could try out some printing on silk, so here we go. If I find success, this heap of lovely white will be colorful long scarves. And I'll bring them to the first week at QBL to sell at the quilt show.

Exhibition at Nu Mvment

My work was installed today at Nu Mvmnt here in Rochester. The space is a facility for yoga, pilates, and dance. And, for those art lovers, it has an expanse of gallery wall space perfect for two dimensional work. I'll be there for the First Fridays in August and September for gallery open night.

If a Tree Falls in the Forest

It is only real if you can record it, share it with someone else, and not just hear it. Tonight's scene for the fireworks. I've recorded it, shared it, and now it's real.

Before the Wash

I've got nine screen passes on this yard of fabric. The print always looks dark and dramatic at this wet and just-printed stage. Trust me, the final piece if just fine. Ironing it tonight.

Collections Are Just Collections

My house was built on a dump. So, gardening becomes low grade archaeology -- I find bits of tile, glass, metal. Some folks collect fossils, or china, or dare I mention, fabric. It's all collections, our study of the properties of objects.

Checking on My Work

The Annual 6x6 fundraiser at Rochester Contemporary asks artists to donate a piece 6" x 6" that they sell for $20 regardless of what it is. My two works, closest to the right edge, one kinda orange, one kinda blue, both sold. That's good. More funds to run the joint.
